NDA Medical Rejection- Problem and solution

We are aware of the three stages of the NDA exam - written examination, SSB Indian Army Interview, and the medical test. NDA written exam and interview needs intellectual and psychological knowledge, but the medical test is about your physical fitness. These people examine your intelligence, mental strength, and physical ability.

Many of you want to know everything about medical rejection, problems, solutions, and how to avoid medical rejection in an NDA interview. This blog will give you detailed information on SSB medical tests.

NDA Medical Students who have passed the first two stages of the NDA exam {written test and SSB Interview} are eligible to appear for NDA medical interview. The candidates will go through medical tests for both Army and the Navy.

Candidates shortlisted for IMA, INA, AFA entries that apply through CDS, AFCAT need to appear for the medical test designed especially for that wing.

After qualifying SSB Indian Army Interview, candidates will go through multiple tests. There are two types of rejection in NDA medical interviews.

· Temporary Rejection -

If you have a medical issue that is easily curable, you will get temporary rejection. You will have 42 days to solve the problem.

· Permanent rejection

NDA Medical Test

Let's check out the medical procedure of NDA-

  • Special Medical Board( SMB)

All the candidates shortlisted for NDA medical test are then retained for one week at the center for medical examination and get fit/temporary unfit or permanent rejection.

Given below are the various tests conducted by the Special Medical Board.

  • Blood test, Urine test, Chest X-ray, and ultrasound

  • Complete ear, nose, tongue, and eye check-ups.

  • Surgical examination if have any.

  • Genera standards of Height, weight, blood pressure

Medical standards for NDA

  • Your body should function properly for any failure of organs, joints, or muscles.

  • Your mental stability is vital. Any history of mental breakdown is not acceptable.

  • Your body should not have any signs of genetic disease like gynecomastia, joint knees, and color blindness.

  • A well-developed chest with 5cm minimum expansion is needed.

  • The candidate should be free from wax (ears), DNS, Hydrocele/Phimosis, Lasik surgery.

  • The candidate must possess a minimum of 14 dental pints with sound teeth. In the case of 32 teeth, the dental point is 22.

  • Enlargement of the liver or spleen is not acceptable.

  • No severe injuries or fractures.

  • They will also check your external body and will ask explanation for marks if any.

Visual Standards for NDA Medical Test

  • Eyesight with glass- 6/6( Only for Hypermetropia)
  • Eyesight without glass - 6/6, 6/9 
  • The candidate should not be suffering from color blindness or night blindness.
  • Hypermetropia- +2.00D
  • Myopia-0.75D

Causes of Rejection in NDA Medical

· Rejection due to Chest problem-

  1. Musculoskeletal deformities viz pectus excavatum
  2. Parenchymal lesions of lungs
  3. Pigeon chest
  4. Rickety rosary
  5. Pleural effusion, or tuberculosis

· Rejection due to Head and neck:

Muscolo-skeletal deformities which can interfere in using safety gear, the cervical rib can lead to rejection.

· Rejections due to Upper limbs, lower limbs, and spine:

Cubitus valgus, Cubitus varus, hyper-flexible or restricted movements of joints, deformities of hands and feet, kyphosis, scoliosis, congenital deformities are also the reason for rejection in medical tests.

· Rejections due to Skin disease:

Vitiligo, scars, vascular malformations, or chronic skin diseases.

· Rejections due to Abdomen and reproductive system:

Hernia, organomegaly, vascular deformities. Renal deformities, gall stones, renal stones, etc. Any problem in the reproductive system is also a cause of permanent rejection.

· Other rejections:

hyper/hypopigmented patches, swelling, naevus, sinus, fistulae, hernia, cyst, vascular malformations scars located anywhere on the body.

· Eye surgery:

If a candidate has undergone 2nd surgery for eye correction, the candidate will get rejected permanently. The candidate must have undergone surgery after the age of 20.

What happens after the Medical test?

After your medical test, you are free to go home and relax if you are fit. If you are unfit or temporarily rejected, then reapply to the AMB(Appeal Medical Board) to overcome the medical issues.

You will get a call after 42 days to reappear for a medical exam at a military hospital of your choice.

Appeal Medical Board

All those candidates who get unfit permanently by Special Medical Board can also reapply for Appeal Medical Board by submitting Rs 40.

Candidates rejected temporarily don't have to pay any fee for reapplying.

Review Medical Board

If the candidate is declared unfit by Appeal Medical Board, the candidate may challenge the proceedings. The candidate may be allowed restorative examination based on the merit of the case.

Physical Fitness standard at IMA/OTA

  • Running record - 2.5 km in 15 min
  • Push-ups - 13 ( not specified)
  • Sit-ups- 25( not specified)
  • Chin ups- 6( not specified)
  • Rope climbing- 3-4 meters

Test that can lead to medical rejection

  • Flat foot

  • Knock Knee

  • Color Perception

  • Sweaty Palms

  • Pigeon chest

  • Kidney stones

  • Angle of Elbow

  • Color Perception CP2 and CP3(for the flying branch) and CP3 ( for CDS entry

How to clear medical tests in NDA interviews?

If the candidate has qualified for the first two phases of the examination but failed in medical test, it will be a lifetime regret.

If you want to avoid medical issues in an NDA interview, then build your physical strength by physical exercises, sports, running, and swimming. You have to be physically fit and must go for physical training. Diet plays a vital role in your physical fitness, so eat all the healthy and nutrient food.

How to avoid medical rejection in NDA interviews?

There is no way to hide your disease or medical issues at the time of the NDA medical interview. If you have a medical illness that is not acceptable, you will get rejected. All you can do is prepare yourself before appearing for the medical interview.
