How to join NDA for girls / NDA Eligibility Criteria for women

The Supreme Court has allowed female candidates to appear for National Defense Academy (NDA) exam. Yes! You read that correctly. Female candidates can also join NDA and serve the nation. It is a smooth step towards slamming gender discrimination and giving girls the opportunity to initiate a step toward the betterment of the country.

As it's all a new process for the country, many girls are curious and confused regarding the eligibility criteria for girls for NDA. They have questions regarding nationality, age limit, qualifications, and syllabus for NDA2-2022, etc. If you are applying for NDA and want to know the NDA eligibility criteria for girls, this article is for you. 

The National Defense Exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission twice a year- NDA 1 and NDA-2. NDA-2 is for girls. Both unmarried males and females are eligible to apply for the NDA exam.

NDA eligibility criteria for women - Nationality

  1.  Candidate holding Indian citizenship or 
  2.  A Citizen of Nepal or 
  3.  A Citizen of Bhutan or 
  4.  A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962, to permanently settle in India or 
  5.  A person originally belonging to India but has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, and East African Countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam for settling permanently in India. 

Note- 

  • People from a foreign country (candidate belonging to categories 2, 3, 4, and 5) have to provide a certificate for NDA eligibility criteria issued by the Government of India. 
  • There is no requirement for these certificates for the candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. 

NDA eligibility criteria for women- Age limit

Many people are confused regarding the age limit criteria for NDA girls. The age limit set by UPSC for candidates are as follows- 

  • The candidates should not be born earlier than 02 January 2003 and not later than 01 January 2005. 
  • The authority will accept the date of birth mentioned in 10 or 12 class certificates.
  • Candidates need to submit these certificates after qualifying for the written exam. 

NDA Eligibility Criteria for Women -Educational Qualification

  • Candidates appearing for the Class 12 exam can also apply for the NDA exam. 
  • Candidates appearing for the Army wing of NDA should have passed class 10+2 class with a recognizable board. 
  • Candidates appearing for Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defense Academy must have passed class 12 with physic and mathematics from a recognizable board. 

NDA Eligibility Criteria for women - Marital Status

  • Only unmarried females are eligible to apply for the NDA exam. 
  • Candidates selected after qualifying for the exam are not allowed to marry during their training period.
  • If you fail to fulfill the condition and get married during the training session, she has to refund all the expenditure to the government and is exude from the training session.

NDA eligibility criteria - Selection procedure

UPSC follows stages of procedure for the selection process. It's a national-level exam so imagine the seriousness of the selection and level of competition. The selection procedure is as follows-

NDA 2- 2022 Written Test

According to UPSC, the NDA exam will take place in offline mode. NDA exam comprises of two papers, mathematics and general ability. Given below are the details of the subjects.

 General Ability has two sections. Part A comprises English, and Part B includes the following -

NDA Application fee for women

Women applicants are not required to pay the fee for their application for the NDA examination.

 The candidate must be physically and mentally fit, avoiding major body issues.

NDA eligibility criteria – Medical standards

The candidate must not suffer through any of the following conditions- 

  • Wax (Ears) 
  • Deviated Nasal Septum 
  • Hydrocele / Phimosis 
  • Overweight / Underweight 
  • Under Sized Chest 
  • Piles 
  • Tonsillitis 
  • Gynaecomastia 
  • Varicocele 

Other medical conditions

  • The candidate should be fit. She should not have any symptoms of a weak body. 
  • All the body functions should work appropriately. 
  • No records of medical breakdown. 
  • Candidates must have standard hearing capabilities 
  • No impediment of speech. 
  • No heart disease, blood vessel disease, or signs of a heart attack. 
  • Blood pressure should lie within the normal range. 
  • No liver or spleen enlargement. 
  • The candidate should not have any problem related to urine. 
  • The candidate should not have any skin disease. 
  • ECG of the candidates should lie within the normal range.
