The military nursing service is one of the prestigious jobs for women. It brings both respect and pride to the family and the individual. What can be more thrilling than serving your nation? If you get a chance to be a part of MNS, then you must go for it.
After qualifying for the MNS exam, the candidate has to appear for the training session. What is the routine of MNS cadets during training? Do they get a stipend? If yes, then how much? Military nurses are responsible for looking after and treating the officers and military personnel. They will learn all the basics of nursing just like every other nurse. But they will follow all the rules and laws just like any officer in the Indian Army. They will also learn some basics of Indian army training.
When a candidate qualifies for the MNS exam, she enrolls in one of the six military nursing training colleges for four years of BSE. The colleges are listed below-

Command Hospital (Eastern Command) Kolkata
Indian Navy Hospital (INHS) Asvini, Mumbai
Army Hospital Research and Referral New Delhi
Command Hospital (Central Command) Lucknow

Indian Army follows strict routines and discipline. MNS cadets have to do all the tasks given by the Indian Army every day. The routine of MNS cadets during training look like this -
All the MNS cadets have to get up at five in the morning and get ready for the busy day ahead.
They have to exercise for about two hours and then get ready for breakfast. Discipline is the soul of an army. For making them realize the necessity of discipline in life, the cadets have to follow all the instructions on how to do breakfast. They have to follow every aspect of mess etiquette.
The educational classes run from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch break. The lunch is lavish and healthy with a lot of varieties. In the beginning, these regular classes and schedules make the training hectic for the cadets. But gradually, you will be habitual.
After completing the class at 4:00 PM, `they have to appear for co-curricular activities and sport. As a military nurse, you should know various skills. These co-curricular activities will enhance their skills and expose them to the atmosphere.
After completing co-curricular activities, the cadets enjoy an evening break of 30 minutes to relax. It's a tea break, and all the candidates have to report to get rid of their fatigues. Here the cadets enjoy their evening snacks and relax with each other.
The training session does not end here. There is more to it. Nurses are known to be kind, loving, compassionate, and patient. To inculcate these gestures in the cadets, they have to report at 5:30 pm for the gardening session to nurture nature with love, compassion, and kindness.
Not only gardening, but there are also various sessions like photography, mass committee, and other sessions to help MNS cadets learn and develop different skills. As a military nurse, you never know what will happen next, and these skills will help them favor the situation.
The dinner timings are 6 to 8 pm. Cadets get fresh and finish their dinner.
After dinner, the cadets will complete their assignments and coursework. The lights get off by ten in the night
Every cadet has to report to the chairpersonship of one of the committees. You have to give details about your day like what you had in your breakfast, which activities you participated in, and others. The cadets are monitored on their roll numbers to carry out a set of responsibilities where they are required to submit a detailed report of their daily activities.
It was the routine of MNS cadets during their training sessions and from Monday to Friday. On Saturday, you have a half-day, and Sunday is off. Sounds hectic? Well, it is tight and busy. The purpose of the hectic schedule is to prepare the MNS cadets for the worst of the situation. The atmosphere of the surrounding is unpredictable. The selected candidates who qualify for the written, interview, and medical test will receive training for four years.
After completing four years of B.Sc. successfully, you will get your nursing degree. The Indian Army organizes a commissioning ceremony where you are will be posted as Lieutenant in the Indian Army as per your result.
MNS cadets get a stipend of Rs.150 every month during the training period. After training, cadets have to sign a bond with the Indian Army for a minimum of 5 years. It is compulsory to sign this five-year bond. The cadets are then appointed as Permanent commission or short commission posts.
Lieutenant is the first post a nurse gets after completion of training. Ranks structures are as follows-

After the Major post, one needs to clear promotional exams to get the next post. After qualifying for the exams, you will be selected for the following posts

You cannot leave the Army after signing the bond. If you wish to do so, you have to pay 25-30 lakhs to the Indian Army.
If we talk about dress codes, we have different dress codes for summers and winters. In summers you will wear steel gray pants and white shirts and in winters, dark gray pants and white shirts. You will also get a chance to attend fresher’s parties, farewell parties, and annual days.
Q1- Are phones allowed in MNS?
A1- Yes, phones are allowed in MNS but not during training. You cannot touch your phone during the training period. You can use your phone only in your free time.
Q2-Do military nurses go through basic training?
A2-Since military nursing is a part of the Indian Army, all cadets need to learn the basics of army training. They also carry guns as they all are targets and are given a pistol or rifle for their safety.
